Your Account's Working Hours

Your account's working hours set which days your business works and how long a standard working day is. Each day of the week has its own start time, finish time and breaks.

What it affects

  • Labour pricing on quotes and jobs. A day rate is turned into an hourly rate using the length of your standard day. See Create a Quote.
  • Labour durations. 1d on a labour line means one standard day. A plain number with no unit is read as hours, so type 3d for three days and 3 for three hours.
  • Bookings in the Planner. Days outside working hours are shaded, and booking someone for a day books their working hours. See How to Schedule and Assign Work Using the Planner.
  • Absence. An absence counts the working days it covers, so days off that are not working days are not taken from anyone's allowance. See Record and Approve Staff Absence.

The default

A new account works Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00, with no breaks. Saturday and Sunday are switched off.

That makes a standard day nine hours. A £250 day rate is priced at £27.78 an hour.

The standard day is the length most of your working days have, less the breaks on those days. With an hour's break each day, the default becomes an eight-hour day, and a £250 day rate is priced at £31.25 an hour. A single shorter day, such as an early finish on a Friday, does not change it.

Where to change it

The whole account

Working hours are set during account setup, in the Working Hours step.

After that, contact Trades Panel support to change them. Settings > Working Hours & Clock-out Settings > Working Hours shows a notice in place of the editor. The Auto Clock-out tab beside it can still be changed by owners and admins - see Set Up Auto Clock-Out.

One member of staff

Owners and admins can give one person their own working week, for example someone who works four days or finishes early.

  1. Go to Staff and open the User Management tab.
  2. Click Edit on the person.
  3. At the bottom of the page, switch on Custom Working Schedule. The days fill in with your account's hours.
  4. Change the days and times you need.
  5. Click Save Changes.

The same section is on the Add User form, so a new starter can be given their own hours straight away. See Add and Manage Staff.

A person's own hours decide which days are shaded on their Planner row, what a day's booking covers for them, and which days their absence counts. They do not change labour pricing, which always uses the account's standard day.

The custom hours are a separate copy. If your account's hours change later, anyone with a Custom Working Schedule keeps their own hours until you edit them.
